I very rarely photograph people - either candidly during a photo walk or in a deliberate, posed portrait session. At times, however, I'm inspired by someone's energy and am moved to photograph them. The above is Lily, a fellow enthusiast of analogue photography and a wonderful artist.

I think 90% of a good portrait happens before the shutter is pressed. The light, the energy of the subject, and so on, play a much larger part than the person pressing the shutter. Yes, of course, a competent person is needed to interpret the scene appropriately and put the rectangle around the subject in the most pleasing place.
