Away From My Desk
I'm out and about today, thankfully. I always love when I get the chance to get away from my desk. The nature of my work, however, means that when I'm 'away', I'm expected to still be accessible. Gone are the days when you truly were away when you were away.
Technology is partly to blame for that. I'm not even talking about smart phones - I've got my actual computer with me in my back pack. I pretty much have it with me all the time now because at any point in time ( like now), I end up in a cafe working :)
The technological leap that smart phones gave us was incredible and obvious to most. If you think about it though, the invention of the portable computer - the laptop - changed the working world for ever. The ability to carry your entire work station with you to work at remote locations was only truly possible when laptops became a thing.
Obviously this is not always a good thing. At times it is just better to separate the two lives; work and home. I think with the technology enabling the new work scenarios, there is now the expectation of carrying work home. This created the 24 hour work day of which I was part for so many years.

Maybe try a week off in the countryside somewhere in Cornwall and perhaps in the tent away from technology! It does help to realise how much you either miss or not miss the gadgets! 😏

I am fighting with my phone addiction lately and I have decided for long walks without any type of devices. It does feel strange and the moment I want to take a picture I remind myself that I used to have a camera and not a phone 😂
LOL. Don't worry, when you get your film camera, all will be well haha.
I often struggle with this concept as well as it feels that I am only off from work when I am sleeping! Given how we also try to get involvedbin our hobbies and passions (like Steem) online as well, it makes it even more difficult to separate from technology. For the better? Probably not...
