MASCA

There is a beautiful village on top of the mountains called Masca. It is a very small village - apparently less than 100 people live there. It consists of a collection of homes linked by walking paths with what can be referred to as a ‘centre’ where you can find places to eat and drink.

This is regarded as one of the most beautiful places to visit on Tenerife, and I totally agree. Apart from the visual beauty by virtue of its location, it is extremely serene. Even with tourists walking around, you can still hear the chirping birds and the occasional chiming of bells.

The best way to see Masca is to take transport up the winding mountain roads, and then walking down the mountain to the ocean where you can be picked up by a boat. You need to be physically fit to do this walk however because it is quite demanding - but it is rewarding.

Masca is fabled to have been a hideaway village for pirates of the Atlantic Ocean centuries ago. One can see why, the town is totally hidden away from potential onlookers from the sea. Naturally, this fable adds to the mystery and romance of the place. Is there buried treasure somewhere in this village? I wonder.
