Lost My Drone In Laos - Signal Lost...OH NO! (DTUBE)
^Click to watch on DTUBE
I have been traveling in Asia for the last two months. I love capturing video and picture on my travels. I brought my Mavic Pro drone with me to capture some awesome aerial footage! So far I have had great luck and no issues flying in Thailand, Japan, and Korea. I am now currently in Laos.
Last night I wanted to capture some shots of the sunset over the river and the beautiful mountains.
Even though the skys are a little hazing from the burning of the crop fields, it is still amazing to see the views from high above!
I took my drone across the river, to the mountains. I wanted to scrap across the tops of the trees and get some shots of the sunset. I wanted to fly where it was just nature and nothing else. I could see the tiny speck of the drone lights in the distance as it zoomed across the tops of the hills.
It was far away on its video capturing mission. I then thought that maybe I should starting returning back to the home position.
THEN,
Out of nowhere...the signal was lost!
The visuals on the controller lost signal and I no longer had control over my drone. I tried messing with the controller to try and reconnect. Then, looking back up into the sky, I had lost visual of the drone over the mountains.
At first I wasn't worried because in the past I have lost signal to the drone and it will reconnect back within a minute or two.
This was not the case this time. I tried getting higher grounds to see if the controller would re connect.
Nothing.
So thinking fast, I decided to run down to the water to find a boat man to take me across the river.
There where a few Laos men with small fishing boats at the water.
They spoke no English. After quickly trying to explain why I wanted to cross the river and having him write in the sand how much it would cost, we jumped in his boat.
My goal was to try and get across the river, closer to the drone that was lost in the hills.
The controller showed that I had 19 minutes left of battery life on the drone...
I realized I may have lost my drone in the hills of Laos...
Watch my @dtube video to find out what happens....
STEEM ON!

I'm happy you got you Drone back. Considering the amazing heights it can fly, I think the price of it for a thousand bucks is worth it.
Thanks for tipping the boat guy 3times the initial price.
How long can the Battery last if fully charged?
Oh ya ! The boat guy was so awesome!!
The battery life is about 30 minutes. :)
Ok. That's a long time to capture breathetaking moments. 😀
Yeah it sure is. I have a total of three batteries, so I can get a great amount of fly time!
Ok. More like back up. That's nice.
Welcome in the club bro I'm happy for you it went well. The dji mavic it's not sooo reliable I foot.. I was trying to get some good footage at a Waterfall on Phangan it went side ways... I didn't kost the signal.. But some kind of magnetic field made my drone crash straight into the stone walls at the Waterfall the under the water... Haha.. Well its only things.. But I'm not very happy abt it ether.. We are waiting for your killer acro tutorial. Have a great one 🙏
Yeah I lucked out! I thought for sure it was a goner. I realized I shouldn't get to ballsy with it!
ah sorry to hear about yours getting wrecked.. that is a bummer. When I flew mine at the falls here, I also felt like the cliffs or something was making it fly a little weird.
Yes, the cliffs does on friend of mine did the same with a very expensive drone.. Flew close to a rock wall suddenly the drone turned en flew straight into the wall.. Bam.. Totally distroyed..it was super hige.. He was supposed to make a video advertisement for a firm, haha.So get a good insurance or be very careful bro.. Thanks for supporting me and always the best to you and your family ✌️🙏
Glad you got the drone back, and thanks for taking good care of the guy with the longtail boat. Where were you? It looked like the steps down to the river in Luang Prabang?
Yeah I was in Luang Prabang toward the Southern part of the city. Have you been here before? :)
Yes. I love Luang Prabang, but it's strange that given all of its charm and beauty, I recognised an anonymous set of concrete steps.
Ohhh...that was a close one...luckily you got the signal back in the end and able to pinpoint the landing spot...otherwise who knows how long it would have taken you to find the landing spot with gps...
It could have landed in some rough terrain like trees or river....
Glad that you got it back...
yeah it was a close call for sure!! hahah ;)
Hahaha...
I can feel your desperation, losing a 1000$ drone especially the one you love....
Thank god you got it back...
Any particular reason for datalink loss???
