Wide Open Me
By Stephen Martin
When I drive past lakes
I can’t help but glance
At the flickering moonlight
And soak in the aperture
Of a wide open me-
I look for boats
Not because I like boats
But because I want to imagine
The night fish biting at my line.
If ice is visible then I go bonkers
Because the glittering specialness
Speaks to my desperation
And the longing of my wolf (self)
Escapes through brightness.
I imagine—
The lake is a friend that I can visit
As many times as I choose
As long as the night is there to illuminate
The moon signals
And the long whirrrrr of my tires on the road
Can be forgotten.

This poem is amazing, @acousticsteveo, the images, both evoked and reals are relatable even through a world of distance. Thanx. One of my favorites
This passage talks about the sometimes bittersweet experience of living vicariously. And without that I don't mean that you actually do. But the phrase is powerful enough to move me.
Thank you for taking the time to let me know about your reading of this poem. It means a lot that people are looking at my words.

I get a real sense of the merging with nature, with the wilderness. Captured particularly well with this line:
Yes. I was born in Plains, Montana which is in the Rocky Mountains. Being in nature at a young age has instilled in me a thirst and longing to merge with its beauty and solitude.
I like how you bring us into your world with this one! Cool lake pic too dude!
Thank you. I was hoping it would have that affect. 😎
