Summary

I was watching the call tonight and I must say it was a bit of a circus. There where actually 2 separate votes taken as it was believed by some that first vote count may have included BP's 'doubling' their votes to sway the result in their favor. This is unfortunate as the result of the first vote was over 70% - Go which meets the requirement agreed by the group of 2/3's +1. As it turned out @eos-cananda validated the voting data and all was good but the time this had been completed and presented, the group had already performed a second vote.

Before the run-up to the second vote, the discussion then turned to the topic of 1.0.2 which includes the whitelisting feature that seemed to spook a few of the block producer candidates. This update can be performed as a soft update and is in absolutely no way a show stopper, not even close, but some candidates felt they wanted to wait.

@dan stepped in on the telegram channel to try and reassure the group that there are no issues preventing launch but to no avail.

Thoughts

I have to say that for a group of individuals as intelligent as they are, I feel ego's stopped progress here. It took Thomas Cox to try and mediate the group, at one stage repeating multiple times:

Please type, not speak, the following:

  • I would change my vote from no go to go if:

it really was a little embarrassing and I felt bad for some of the more reasonable candidates on the call ( @eos-cananda ). The team is committing to have proper voting and reporting mechanisms in place for tomorrows attempt to avoid the drama of tonight. Is this what happens when you do not have a central authority to make decisions, is this the physical example of the saying "You can't please all the people all the time"?. If it is then we will never see a launch :-s

Thanks man for this update, so possible launch would be only in two days? What is the outcome of the audit? If not finished yet did they give an eta? Is there a recording or transcript, I feel it is important to know who said what?

The next no-go / go meeting is at 01:00 UTC (Saturday local time). If the vote is a GO, the team will launch over the weekend and not wait until Monday.

This is interesting as Hong Kong hosted EOS Hackathon starts tomorrow as well. If the launch happens, it is going to be a fun packed weekend for EOS coders and supporters alike.

I do not have the transcript this time unfortunately, I was simply watching an unofficial live stream of the the event that I found. If the same stream is available tonight I will try to take more detailed notes as I agree, we need to know the thought process behind each block producer representative as it will help us solidify our voting.
