The Power Of Example

in #life5 years ago

When I entered the supermarket today to buy me some bakery products I almost regretted doing it from the first steps inside. There is some kind of holiday season this week for school kids and my town being "a touristic one" there were plenty of kids buying all sort of things in there.

The cashiers were working like robots and I've said to myself that if they can do it I can do it as well and thus I took my breakfast and waited in line to pay for it. There was a pretty teacher close to me that I've noticed right away and I even looked at her multiple times. I admit...

She even inspired me to write this post and not by her beauty or by the fact that I starred at her. There was a child looking at a Pepsi Cola bottle and already with his hand stretched towards the bottle to pick it up when I heard the beautiful teachers saying to him: I hope you're not thinking in buying that cola...

And then the child retraced his hand and chose another full of chemicals soda, but not Cola. In her hand though, the pretty teacher that really cared about the child's health, had a... bottled Cola. That was when I though what is more important in educating a child?

The power of advice or the power of example? From what I know, from my own experience, sight has way more influence in creating habits and inviting sweet temptations into your life than hearing someone's advice. What will that child remember better? That he shouldn't drink Coke or that the teacher was doing it...

Thanks for attention and have a great day!

This is something I have observed with parents and child dynamics.

Parents preach to their child not to swear, whereas their parents do. I

Parents preach to their children not be scared, whereas their parents are fearful to come out of their comfort zones.

The motivational speaker, Gary Vee, preaches to be authentic and even swears in front of his children ( both under 10 years old). I think this extreme, however if he is being genuine, who am I to judge?

What you do is more important than what you say in my opinion.

What you do is more
Important than what you say
In my opinion.

I'm a bot. I detect haiku.

Do as I say, not as I do! Haha yeah you’re right, I think she should have put the cola back

Or let the kid have one too :)

Do as I say, not as I do right? I apologize if I have neglected your posts. I will make an effort to fix that in the future. I knew I hadn't seen your name as much since Musing went to crap!

If the child would only get it right that the best is to do what the teacher says and not what he's doing. Same with doctors.

For sure!
