7 Days on Steem - My IntroductionsteemCreated with Sketch.

in #introduceyourself7 years ago (edited)

I've been on this platform for a full week now, and I never got around to introducing myself to the community. I just dove in head first to posting content and getting a feel for this place. There are so many bright minds, beautiful original content, and a plethora of worthwhile information here. I was taken back by the amount of knowledge flowing through this community that I didn't set aside time to tell everyone who I am.

Where I Came From

The year was 1992, I was being born in the back of a taxi cab during a snowstorm in Ontario Canada. I believe my conception to be the result of bottom shelf vodka and a faulty condom from a gas station bathroom's dispenser, but I digress. When I was three my mom met a man that forever changed my life. He was an American truck driver that took a liking to my mom. I still haven't figured out how they met, the ongoing joke is that she was a "lot lizard", but I love her all the same. It wasn't long after that till they got married and we all moved to his farm house in Michigan.
I never knew my biological father, nor do I have the urge, but I'm thankful that I had some type of father figure in my life. My biological father took off when I was born, didn't want anything more to do with us. My step-dad took us in and raised my sister and I as his own, he shares no blood with me yet I still call him my dad. Granted there were and still are things we butt heads on, however he did his damnedest to raise us with no prior experience. You can't blame a guy for trying hard.

Who I Perceive Myself To Be

Writing about myself can prove to be quite the daunting task, I believe it requires a bit of narcissism, of which I have little. I'm always open to change, be it my looks or how I think about something. I enjoy thinking about something and trying to view it from many different perspectives, it sheds light on a situation and provides a deeper understanding. I don't think think that I've ever completely believed in any one religion, or any bodies belief system no matter how much truth it may yield. That concept drives me to constantly change how I think about things. I meditate, do yoga, and sometimes ingest psychedelic substances to attain an open mind.

What In The Hell Interests Me

As a kid I didn't have much interest in video games, I'd rather walk a quarter mile into the woods behind the house. Being around nature, observing, and interacting with it was and still is to this day a calming embrace. My house is full of different types of plants; They may take up space, but they give me room to breath. My basement has been turned into a grow room for the plants that can't thrive in the limited sun of winter. When it's cold and dark outside you can always find me downstairs getting some artificial sun and reading to my plants.

I'm an amateur guitarist, I've never been too keen on learning somebody else songs and style. I've practiced scales and nodes over and over again and played notes that sounded good to my ears. I'm always changing the rhythm and key trying not to get stuck or drawn back to the ever so seductive and easily played Em Pentatonic.

I also really enjoy cooking my own meals, you actually get to taste the effort you put in. You find out what mixes and what should never touch the same plate at the same time. I've learned that food can have a major impact on your health, not only that, but consuming garlic and cayenne peppers when I'm sick has proven to be much more effective than any decongestant.

What Pays Your Bills?

I"m a mechanic, particularly semi trucks and trailers. I've worked on a myriad of different pieces of diesel powered equipment: farm equipment, excavation equipment, school and motor-coach buses. You can never get all the grease out from under your fingernails and the water's always black after you rinse the shampoo out of your hair, but I enjoy what I do. I can zone out and philosophize while also making repairs. It has become second nature to me.

Welcome !

Welcome to Steemit!
You have an interesting story about yourself.
I plan on being a machanic myself, but not heavy duty, just cars and trucks for now.

Upvoted and followed from Alberta! :)

Welcome to Steemit - I'm guessing you must be a fan of the Zen and the Art of Motorbike Maintenance if you're a philosophizing mechanic!

All Hail the stormborn!!
I also like yoga and meditation but i am irregular.
Welcome dude.
We'll have so much fun

Whats your name again. ;)

If you look real closely at the old uniform shirt hanging on my wall you'll figure it out.

Welcome to Steemit, @aceofthegrove. Nice introduction post. Loved reading your story, that's quite a great deal that you have shared. About what pays your bills, I totally agree with what you said there.

but I enjoy what I do. I can zone out and philosophize while also making repairs. It has become second nature to me.

It very rare, most people do things that they do not enjoy just cause it pays well. I will look forward to reading more about your plants and cooking too. Have fun Steeming.

Keep an eye out, I'm getting ready to clean my horrid basement to make room for plants again this winter.
Shudders
The spiders might eat the bugs, but their webs always get stuck in my hair.

Definitely, I will. Yeah, gotta bear something bad to get a better result. :)

I don't know how good of a mechanic are you, but I know you are a great writer. I loved what you said about "trying to view from many different perspectives". I do that too and I ended up loosig some potential friends because of it. Some people don't understand the concept of "a point of view and a view of a point". Congrats and keep the good posts coming ;) Following you already. Cheers from Brazil!

Thank you, I try my best to write descriptively without going over the top.My grandma told me that my ability to look at things from a third person point of view would be better suited as a psychologist, not a mechanic, but hey I don't have that type of money.
