Talking about green sandy beaches, so far Papakolea Beach in Hawaii is the most frequently mentioned. The beach sand there does have a dark green color like olives.

Apart from Papakolea, there are several beaches that have green sand. Here are some of them as reported by Travel + Leisure.

The first green sandy beach that is not widely known by foreign tourists is Talofofo. It is on the pacific islands of Guam. The beach sand there is greenish thanks to the content of olivine, a type of dark green crystal formed from ancient volcanic lava.

The green sand at Talofofo cannot always be seen with the naked eye. It takes sunshine and the right weather to see it. Even so, Talofofo remains popular with local tourists because its natural conditions are perfect for surfing. The limestone cliffs that surround it are also quite beautiful.

The Galapagos Islands are one of the most isolated waters in the world, but are also popular as research sites. The archipelago, which is formed from a series of volcanoes, is a habitat for various species of endemic flora and fauna that cannot be found anywhere else in the world.

Floreana Island in the Galapagos region has Punta Cormorant, a beautiful dark green sandy beach. Olivine crystals that formed from volcanic eruptions around the island were carried by currents for hundreds of years and ended up on the coast of Punta Cormorant.

Actually, Hornindalsvatnet is not a beach. This is a lake tourist attraction in Norway. The shores of Lake Hornindalsvatnet are decorated with beautiful greenish sand. This is the only lake on earth that has natural green sand.

The green sand is formed from the movement of glaciers thousands of years ago. That's why the lake is filled with green mineral deposits.
