Nice rant! I've never been there, but I suppose lots of other places do that as well. It seems like people think that because they pay for something then it's fine, all other responsibilities absolved. What a crazy waste of energy, especially if it's from coal or something similar...

The ownership mentality is a pre-1960s view on the environment and needs to end.

It is not unique to here, but Korea will suffer worse because over crowded. Half of energy here is coal.

C before J but not k, lol. BTC is the gold standard and the best investment of them all. Just look at prices this year so far, since the bottom of the market and it is BTC at the top of all the others pretty much.

I should really write about the crypto market it's been awhile. I learnt my lesson about ignoring btc a couple cycles ago. You can test your luck at risky ones or just go with what worls. I guess some people like even more risk.

good article you describe great how crazy we waste energy.

Sometimes i wish me some hundred years back (vikings etc) im wouldnt be surprised, if they were more satisfied then the majority of the "soft people" today.
Some parts of our modern culture rais us up as "pussys".

Fat kids, who bully each other and getting their bills payed by their parents. Unhealthy lifestyle, humans in industrialized countries, living this respectless to the nature, the energy they are using and at least to their own bodys will degenerate in my opinion (physical and mental).

This triggers me heavy, i hope that our society dont evolve in this direction.

We have so much more potential in my opinion

We have over industrialized. There is practically no way out. Most people wouldn't last a week in the woods even with modern tech and a food supply. In fact they would probably end up wasting more resources. It's just a mess, everywhere.

Do you know yuval harraris history of humankind? He explained, that life of humans was better before agriculture revolution (in regards of health parameters and i think also about "overall happiness").

Its crazy how soft people get, i mean we are the "strongest predator" of all time.

Most people wouldn't last a week in the woods even with modern tech and a food supply.

I think this results from the high specialisation of the modern people and because most people dont strain themselves, what are the big fights of the average guy? Most people dont ever really fight for something, they get their adrenaline and satisfy/dull their survival instict with action films, action games,...

Most humans of today are "internet predators", average time a children in germany plays with his smartphone is more then 4 hours a day. (plus netflix,...)

But i think there are ways out (think some modern technologies can help changing the lifestyles back to what nature made us for).

Interesting question, perhaps we evolve in very interesting directions.

Asking questions like this to yourself in my opinion proves, that you have a healthy mindset, i really like to ask those questions to me (even if it makes me sad) because i think this is very important for the process of personal and overall development.

If you dont know the books of yuval harrari i can definetly recommend them to you

I have that book at home. A friend gave it to me , but I haven't got around to reading it yet. I'll put it closer to thr front of the list.
If we did things properly, life would be much better than pre agricultural revolution. Some small scale societies managed well.

I have to say I have heard of people here cracking a window in the winter to "get some fresh air" in if it is too hot, however, your example takes the cake as we say. That is just crazy!!!

They literally designed the shop so they can open the entire front end! It's by design for sure. However I imagine the rent is still more than the electricity costs.

Good rant. I totally agree with you. With their SUVs and over packaging, if any country deserves the negative effects of global warming, it's Korea.

Don't forget filling up the sea, coal power and burning of trash (known locally as biofuel ;)

In germany they wanna use CO2 friendly energy like wind.. since years they've rooted out several forest just to have some space to build some wind turbines..

It's really difficult to strike a proper balance with green energy. That's why the best way forward is to create a more efficient economy and work on carbon capture until we've developed something safe and clean.

The german economy is being dismantled

may I ask why you're a btc skeptic? cuz of all those maximalists?

Lol, Actually I'm somewhat of a BTC maximalist. Steem is the only crypto I own outside of the top 20 in any worthwhile amount and overall most of my crypto is in BTC. No matter how you spin it, BTC is the gold standard. There are other tools for other jobs. Steem is a swiss army knife by comparison.

I'm more skeptical of the libertarian assumptions that cryptocurrency can somehow replace central government issued currencies anytime soon. Sure something like Libra which is basically a basket of currencies could work in theory, but even regional currencies like the Euro are starting to have issues after a single generation and it doesn't have a simple off switch or the dystopian capabilities of certain crypto.

I feel sorry for what is happening in Europe right now, Germany is the largest economy, so no doubt they will be hit the hardest if the experiment fails, and that is what the EU is because it has never been tested before. Other large federations are all single nations states like Russia, Canada, US, Brazil, China and Indonesia and were born out of very different circumstances.

What do you think of Ethereum? (programmable) with MAKER/DAI as decentralized stablecoin

LTC? (Testnet for BTC?)

Cardano? (open research?)

Monero (private) or even Grin (private - mimblewimble)?

Bitshares (dezentralized Exchange) ?

I think many of the cryptocurrencies are simply just tokens and have no point of having their own chain.

I like smat contracts and think of them as blockchain 2.0. I don't see them as replacing money, I see them as replacing contracts and more. They are too complicated to replace money. Neo, Tron, Bnb, Eos seem too similar to ethereum to comment on. For the most part they are just more centralized and tweaked slightly in terms of voting or whatever. Xlm I want to throw in this category, but it's quite unique and not as smart as the others.

Xrp i want to classify as similar to libra but not pegged, I actually see huge potential with this type of token for replacing money as we know it. Nano, Steem and xlm somewhat fall into this category as well.

Then we have privacy coins which are great, but I don't see a huge future there. Everytime we have mainstream criticism, guess what I think about how monero will keep crypto dodgy.

LTC was my second love after btc. I'm not currently heavily in it, but I did really well. I think it's good to keep around and better than the forks like bch and bsv which seem like outright cash grabs.

The decentralized coins, I don't know mich about these actually, but I've used DEX before and like the concept of idex l, and 0x or whatever it is. I'm not currently speculating on those. I want to see ibm nasdaq or stellar launch somethig more traditional first.

Bottom line, we need adoption. I guess i have research left like iota and ada, they are great, but I'll leave the btc millionaire's and developers to that.

Please forgive my oversimplification. My thoughts are sinply too many cryptos in existance right now, we only have track record to go by.

Spot on. This kind of waste has to stop.

It bothers me because the only possible purpose for this is to drive consumerism and make the cycle even worse. They should all offer cool filtered water to fill your reusable cup and keep the doors closed if they are using energy to heat or cool the place.

:D well written...but, of course, it's sad. For many people, it is kind of rebellious and a proof of power. I think there is even a genre called Diesel-Punk, where there are some aesthetics to fat cars blowing out unfiltered smoke. Like people find it cool to over-state animal cruelty and play around with food/meat just to upset those pussy vegetarians.

I think this is similar to 'rolling coal'. Even the Steam Punk genre is based off the Victoria Industrial era except they've somehow managed 21st-century scrubbing technology, in other words, we've romanticized industrial pollution.
You are right it is similar to people who pursue animal cruelty. Except the effects are becoming global in reach.
