Unforgettable Trip - KABARAGALA HIKE

Hello Travelers,

"Dolosbage Mountain Range" is one of the beautiful mountain ranges located in the Central Province of Sri Lanka. And today I'm going to share my experience of Kabaragala Hike which is the highest mountain in this Dolosbage Mountain Range. Kabaragala mountain is located 1506m above from the sea level and it takes the shape of a "Monitor Lizard" and that's why it is called as "Kabaragala" which gives the meaning as "Kabara" - Monitor Lizard and "Gala"-Rock in Sinhala language

Our Hiking Troup

This hike was organized by the Adventure Club of my university. We started our journey at 6.00am from the university premises with a bright hope of an excellent journey. We reached the location by 10.00am. The journey in the bus was full of fun as we were singing and dancing throughout our way. When we were about to start our hike the weather was gloomy and we prayed for no rains.

Kabaragala is one of the mesmerizing mountains in Sri Lanka that is gifted with bio diversity and full of endemic flora and fauna. The mountain range is shrouded in mist through our the year and has a cool climate. The hike was kind of tough with the rain and leeches. But the breathtaking view around such as beautiful tea estates, lawns and pine forests made us forget about all the difficulties.

With lots of chit chats and observations of the surrounding we slowly reached the top view point of the the mountain. This was the best part of the journey. From the top we could view 360° with an amazing view around and the beautiful clouds gave us the feeling that we are close to the sky. Standing at this tip of the mountain we could see some of the important and beautiful places near by such as "Kotmale Reservoir", "Sri Padaya", "Ambuluwawa", "Saptha Kanya Mountain" and "Rakshagala".

Many hikers do camping at this location, but as ours was a one day trip we spent about an hour at the top of this rock and enjoyed singing songs and dancing and returned our way back home with heart full of happiness. The journey was wonderful and we collected lifetime memories full of joy and unity.
