Photos from a sodden back garden

in #photography5 years ago

As promised to a couple of community members, a look around my brothers and sister-in-law's garden which has seemingly been loving the persistent rain this past week.

A week ago, I left sunny Mallorca on the day of the highest temperature on the island this year. Twenty-nine degrees was predicted, although it was 'only' 21 Celsius when I arrived at the departures at around 9 am. Unsurprisingly, it's not been close to that here, and to add insult to injury, it's rained every day since arrived back 'home'.

I'm British, and so it's acceptable to bitch about the weather. This week though has been particularity rough, imagine this was your bathroom?

Anyway, enough of that, let's go have look around the garden!

The previous owners of the house clearly spent a lot of time in the garden. Before I left for Spain, I did a fair amount of work in the garden, up-rooting some of more difficult to maintain/awkward trees and plants, and these days my brother doesn't have a great deal to do each week to keep on top of things.

Under pretty much all of the stones, there is that black material that stops weeds n stuff growing through. It's a pain in the backside to put down and cover, but once you are done then time spent weeding is vastly reduced.

A few years ago I used this bench as the location to place my old Star Wars figures which we promptly bought by a collector on ebay. I'm annoyed that I don't at least have the photo (and a little annoyed my bro wasn't willing to keep them up in his huge loft!)

Probably my favourite thing in the garden is this little tree which i think is a Crimson Queen Japanese Maple. It's so small, and looks like it should be a lot bigger - Bonsai like.

Proof of raindrops on the last couple of photos, I did manage to sneak out in-between the showers to take these but it's clear to see there has been rain. And guess what? The rain is set to continue for at least another week or so. At least the garden will be happy.

Something different today :)

Cheers

These are lovely pics of the garden......just lovely.

So the showers continue.... do they.....the idea of away to the pub sounds splendid.

All the best.

Cheers!

Thank you very much @bluejay :)

Lovely garden, scary bathroom. I know England is soggy but that’s more like Venice.

Haha yeah, Venice is much better with water than many destinations!

Thanks very much!

Absolutely beautiful photos.. you will wish you had the Star Wars collection one day. I love the garden and greenhouse. @abh12345

Thank you Rebecca! :)

Beautiful garden! But oh man, that bathroom! O.o I imagine it must take a LOT of rain for England to flood, as opposed to here where it can happen very quickly because we're high desert so the soil isn't used to taking on that much water.

Flash-flooding is pretty rare but can happen here. This weeks flooding is down to a shocking June - typical that it's my first here for four years!

England just wanted to welcome you home! ;)

I didn't know you were a garden-lover, Asher?!
Maybe I should get the SteemIt Community Garden Journal Challenge for this month out asap, so you can join. :0)
Awesome pics. That tree is beautiful and funny at the same time. It's like someone has stolen the stem, lol

I'm not really, unless the sun is beating down but i did have a little part to play in the design of this one :)

Loved that rose, it seems to have an inner glow.... And that stately foxglove! Wish mine would grow like that!

Yes I thought the same regarding the rose, iphone did good for once!

Maybe 2 weeks of rain has helped the fox glove grow nice and straight? :)

I hate to admit this, but i do miss British rain. And foxgloves.

After almost 2 weeks of rain each day, I am so over any feeling of missing the damp!

I remember when I first moved to England. I seriously could not believe it was not possible to see the sun at least once a week period let alone the dark period it was absolutely horrifying. I did get used to it, but I am very grateful for fairly mild Australian Winters. We do get cold where we are and it does rain comma however there is never that feeling that you are walking around in a cloud. May you find the strength to get through it. The worst thing is for the English having gone through a winter already is that it should be summer and it seems terribly unfair that you can't sit around drinking Pimms in the sunshine

I didn't realise you were a gardener @abh12345. Nice job you made of it too.

Hope you're at least enjoying being with your family even though you're hating the weather.

Good excuse for a few beers in your local pub I reckon. 😁

To be fair, I was mainly the extra brawn but I think overall a job well done.

A beer sounds good actually, perhaps we will take our brollies down to the pub this weekend ☔️

Also something different then the garden in Mallorca!

Very, no citrus fruits or sand here!

That is a beautiful garden, absolutely lovely. I agree the Japanese Maple is lovely, so is the rose. It's interesting to see a garden when there has been so much rain, it looks very lush. That bathroom, though, poor woman!

Lush is the word, these plants and trees are loving the showers.

I will pass on your praise to my bro, thank you!
