Dendang Melayu: The Music that Reflects Cultural Society

Dendang Melayu is also called Melayu music is kind of music that still adopts the traditional method. Its origin from East Coast Sumatra, Kalimantan, and the indigenous tribes of Peninsula and East Malaysia. This was firstly sung by Malay tribe in cultural ceremony. The dendang melayu lyric is mostly adopted based on the Malay people activity that contains a lot of moral value that reflects the cultural society.

The famous song is "Seroja", the song that hold the messages to advise the teenagers how to behave and how to avoid the sadness and many other interesting songs that tell us about life, love, religion and moral. This current Melayu music has a lot of changes especially the instruments, that was developed around 1950 that become the Modern Melayu Music where it started to used the modern instrument that is also mixed with traditional instrument such as violin, acordion, rapai, guitar and keyboard.

Another thing that make the Melayu music is good to watch is the costum that is wore by the personnel. The traditional identity is clearly seen through their outfit. This traditional customs add a sensational sight along with the waving of music play.

Most of personnel are above fifty which more less indicates they are quite serious to preserve the identity of Melayu musical art. They belong to this music, and keep on rocking the stage to deliver the moral messageto society.
