International Women's Day
I started seeing posts about International Women's Day a day before (7th March) the recognized day globally for its commemoration but did not give it much attention. By the D-day, Tuesday 8th, my timelines across the different social media platforms today had updates of several kinds of posts and pictures celebrating women, motivating women to soar high and encouraging women to break biases.
Eventually, that evening, I had my fill of the mushiness and was forced to ponder on the roles of women generally and in my life.
A particular moment in my life that I keep remembering was the day my mother gifted me the only piece of precious jewelry that she possessed. I was in my second level in the higher institution and had gone through several types of jewelries which all ended up getting worn. After complaining to her that day, she asked me to fetch the box in which she kept this jewelry set, which even she didn't wear. I did and on returning, she handed the whole thing to me. I was shocked and close to tears, not only because I got something precious, but especially because of the thought behind it.
I have lots of misunderstandings with this woman, her actions a lot of times grate on my nerves, but remembering this and a lot of other gestures remind me of her endless sacrifices and how amazing she is.
You are the superwoman that I wish to celebrate, mama. You are amazing, beautiful and everything in between. You rock.
Happy International Women's Day always.
This is my first of many posts on Steemit, hopefully and I'm glad to have joined this great community.
