Seven Day Positivity Challenge - Day Five

Thanks again @canadianrenegade for nominating us. Today we will show thanks for our kitchen. Gerri is most proud of it because it is totally hers. Ever since we moved in here she didn't feel like the kitchen was hers, until now.

This is what it looked like before we moved in.

So when she sold the house in Ontario, she called Reg, our trusty contractor and they sat down and designed a new kitchen. A brighter, much more functional kitchen.

And then we started.

We took the cupboards out with a bit of care, so we could use them in our worm/grow/storage room. Reg was going to use a sledgehammer, but we figured they would be handy. They were. There was also some rot under the sink, so we had to put a new subfloor in, but we were expecting that. The old cupboards were original in 1983 or something like that.

As the new ones went in, we could see how beautiful the change was going to be. We were lucky to get such a great guy to do the work for us. We would have never been able to take this job on ourselves.

This was just before the island went in. The island with a huge amount of storage space. This is what it looks like after we became comfortable around it.

This has really been a journey for her, and to see the tears of joy when it was completed was worth more than any money could buy. (Which is lucky, because we were getting short on funds. 😉)

We still have some trim work to do, but it's done for the most part. It has turned our kitchen into a focal point and a gathering spot. The kids actually like to spend time there now.

Not doing work, but we are hoping that someday it will happen.

Thanks for spending your time with us, and we hope to see you around.

Wow! Gorgeous kitchen. It looks way brighter and more inviting than the original. Great job. I feel like the kitchen is the heart of the home and needs to be both a functional and enjoyable space. -Aimee

Yep, it completely transformed everything.

That's how I remember it as a kid too. Everything happened in the kitchen.
