“Competition 16 - WATER DROPS”
Someone once told me that the water drops on the surface of a plant or leaf is sweat. I was like — do plants sweat? He said; Yes, they do sweat that's why the water bubbles can't leave the bodies unless they get touched by someone or the sun. I was amazed at his reasoning and then posed him with a question.
If human beings which are living things do sweat and the sweat drops surfaces on their bodies, why don't plants and animals which are living things sweat?
He felt I was on his side but I explained to him that these plants don't sweat. They have their own form of excretion in water vapour which are mostly seen on the stomata of their leaves. Even though they transpire water, they don't sweat outrightly as humans. It's either rain, humidity or a deliberate action by a human that makes segmented water drops to be seen on the surfaces of plants and their shoots or roots. Aside from this, they release water vapour through small openings on their leaves called Stomata.
Let's talk about the pictures in question. The picture above shows an aloe Vera plant with water drops from the rain that fell. Why do these water drops stick for long without drying off? That's plants ability to retain water on it surface because of its surface area.
The nature of its leaf looks smooth but is filled with cuticles that retain these water bubbles for use by plants. On a normal, water has that natural ability to be retained in bubble on surfaces. Water can't completely dry off when thrown on a surface except for one leaf we call Cocoyam. Water can't stick on the leaf because of its surface area. If someone pours water on you, you can't dry off immediately. The hairs on your skin will definitely absorb drops of water.
This is the reason we have water drops on living and non-living things. It wasn't easy to capture this picture from this angle but I had to position myself in a way that the water drops would be seen from the side. It's more visible if placed in a sided angle than in a vertically upward angle.
One can definitely use it for his or her wallpaper because of the angle its taken and the beauty of Photography. The water drops in on this plant is not as prominent as the second. If you look at the second picture for approximately 5 minutes, you'll have lots of goosebumps believe me. You'll feel these water droplets are in your skin. The prominence is just there and judging from the pictures, they are all edited original pictures.
